The Mynd event nearly didn’t happen, in the middle of last week the forecasts were not looking promising for the weekend. But, luckily, Mark Sanders – the Mynd Comp Director – held his nerve and we had a great weekend.

Team Tal traveled up a day early to get re-acquainted with the winch. We had to wait until the evening as there was a course on, but the instructors and winch drivers worked until 8.00pm to get us sorted, even dinner was held back for us – all very accommodating. And the steak was the best I’ve had for a long time.

Team Tal are currently lying in 3rd place with 9 points behind Nympsfield and the Mynd who are both on 13 points. Shobdon are 4th on 3 points and Aston Down and Usk are yet to score. Full details of the tasks and scoring can be found at https://www.soaringspot.com/ en_gb/rock-polishers-r2- london-heathrow-2018/

Highlights of the weekend must go to Chris Short (Novice), first winch launch in the Discus, first competition flight, first field landing and finally first completed competition flight. Well done Chris.

For Dave Hope (Pundit) it was a baptism of fire flying with World Champions and National Record holders!!

For me, (Inter) the low light was landing wheel up after completing a challenging flight, and yes, the incident report form was filled in for the Mynd CFI.

The next event will be at Aston Down for 3 days over the late May Bank Holiday, team details to be announced nearer the time. For now I’ll leave you all in peace, don’t be surprised if you hear more details from Dave and Chris – ask about the retrieve sometime😉

Bye for now, Clarkie
